Meadows slots revenue drops

HARRISBURG – The Meadows Casino experienced a 7.64 percent decline in gross slot machine revenue last month compared with April 2013, the second consective month its year-over-year figure dropped about 8 percent.

The North Strabane Township gaming venue was not alone, though, according to figures from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Ten of the 11 casinos statewide that were operating both Aprils endured a dropoff last month from the previous year.

The PGCB reported slots revenue generated at Pennsylvania’s 12 casinos during April was down 3.6 percent from April 2013, the sixth straight monthly decline. The dropoff, however, is more pronounced – 4.6 percent – if Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin’s total is excluded from the equation. The Fayette County facility, which did not open until July 1, 2013, had $2,103,745 in revenue last month.

According to the report, gross revenue from slots machine play at the 12 casinos in April was $197,760,977, compared with $205,155,406 one year earlier. Slots play last month resulted in $105,766,654 in tax revenue.

The Meadows had $18,533,750 in gross revenue last month, compared with $20,110,854 collected in April 2013.

Rivers Casino, on Pittsburgh’s North Side, experienced a 5.28 percent decline in revenue last month ($23,152,883 compared with $24,444,240 the year before).

Valley Forge Casino Resort, in eastern Pennsylvania, was the only facility that realized a year-over-year increase, from $5,395,225 to $6,475,250 – 20.02 percent.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs nearly broke even, dropping one-tenth of 1 percent from $18,600,479 in April 2013 to $18,580,700.
