MEI adding 2 buildings in Houston
HOUSTON – Before the end of the year, a major transformation will occur at 23 W. Pike St. in Houston Borough.
During groundbreaking ceremonies Wednesday afternoon, officials of McCutcheon Enterprises Inc., which provides a variety of services to the region’s oil and gas industry, showed a site on which it will build a 10,000 square-foot showroom for its rental equipment and an adjacent building for its maintenance operations related to its hydraulic center for hoses, parts and repairs.
Founded in 1947, MEI is based in Apollo, where it operates a 58,000 square-foot treatment facility that can handle solid, semisolid and liquid wastes from a range of industries.
Earlier this year, MEI was named Oilfield Services Company of the Year by the national Oil & Gas Awards, the second time in three years it received the honor.
MEI opened its Houston operation in 2013 at 101 W. Pike St., but later acquired the property next door to which it will move its operations.
MEI Executive Manager Nathan McCutcheon said following Wednesday’s event the company hopes to have the retail building completed by the end of October, with completion of the maintenance building, which could range from 10,000 to 13,000 square feet, expected by mid-December.
A number of public officials who spoke Wednesday during the ceremonies noted MEI is the latest family-owned company to expand in Washington County, which benefitted from the shale gas boom of the past several years.
Others took notice of the fact MEI’s expansion is being built by Charleroi-based General Industries, another local multi-generational family company.
“Keeping generations together is what it’s all about in Washington County,” said state Sen. Camera Bartolotta, R-Carroll Township.
