True Value Co., one of the world’s largest retailer-owned hardware cooperatives, said Tuesday Busy Beaver Home Improvement Centers has joined the co-op.

Busy Beaver, a regional home improvement retailer founded in Pittsburgh in 1962 as a distributor of roofing, lumber and building material products to professional contractors and do-it-yourself customers, operates 16 home improvement centers in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, including a store on West Chestnut Street in Washington.

The chain will be serviced by True Value’s Cleveland regional distribution center and will join more than 20 other independently owned and operated True Value stores operating in the Pittsburgh area.

True Value, with gross billings of more than $2 billion and revenue of $1.5 billion in 2014, includes 4,400 independent retailer locations worldwide operating under the store identities of True Value, Grand Rental Station, Taylor Rental, Party Central, Home & Garden Showplace and Induserve Supply.

Since late 2013, Busy Beaver has been operating under new Pittsburgh-based ownership and employs more than 300 people from its surrounding communities.
