Wild Things ready to pitch naming rights for ballpark
The Washington Wild Things are seeking a new corporate sponsor for naming rights to the team’s Consol Energy Park in North Franklin Township.
The team said in a news release Tuesday that Apex Marketing Group, a leading naming rights and sponsorship marketing firm, was hired by Sports Facility LLC, the parent company of the Pennsylvania Rebellion professional women’s fastpitch team and The Washington Wild Things baseball team of the Frontier League.
Apex will conduct the evaluation and execute the sales process for a new naming rights partnership to begin at the conclusion of the current Consol Energy Park agreement. The current 10-year agreement expires Jan. 1.
Sports Facility Managing Partner Francine Williams noted that since 2002, the stadium has hosted professional softball, baseball and soccer, festivals, antique fairs and numerous concerts, including Taylor Swift.
The stadium also was the site where Sarah Palin spoke to a crowd of more than 10,000 people the day after she was announced as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate in 2008.
“Our sports and entertainment venue has been a staple in the Washington County area for over 13 years,” Williams said. “We look to partner with a company interested in our unique location and demographic audience and invested in our mission of providing a family fun and affordable entertainment option to the region.”
According to Apex, the eventual naming partner will receive millions of dollars in media exposure throughout the year. The relationship will provide the opportunity for a company to go beyond traditional branding and showcase products and services at the ballpark and throughout the Energy Capital of the East.
”We believe that the North Franklin Township complex, strategically located as it is on Interstate 70 with complete visibility to more than 10 million vehicles per year will continue to deliver quality entertainment options to families as well as to being a great marketing asset to a naming rights partner with unique benefits and branding value,” said Eric Smallwood, managing partner of Apex Marketing. “We have developed a presentation and a proposal that will identify these benefits, and we will begin meeting with prospective partners immediately.”
The venue features a capacity of 10,000 to 12,000 for concerts and festivals, and approximately 4,000 for sporting events. In addition, the facility has five luxury party suites, a right field party deck, a play area for children, and a picnic area in left field.
