Meadows fuels statewide increase in slots revenue
Gross revenue from slot machine play at Pennsylvania casinos last month rose $3.5 million from the previous March – and The Meadows Casino fueled more than one-fourth of that increase.
The state’s 12 gaming sites generated $211,253,260.17 in revenue last month, a 1.7 percent jump from $207,712,396.01 from March 2015, according to figures released Monday by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. That, specifically, is an increase of $3,540,864.16 over the year.
The gaming venue at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino generated $19,817,504.08 in revenue last month, compared with $18,799,708.54 the previous March – a 5.4 percent bump, tied for third best statewide. That $1,017,795.54 increase accounted for 28.7 percent of the statewide jump.
That was the seventh consecutive month the North Strabane Township casino experienced an increase.
Meadows Casino reported Monday it paid $10,307,762 in jackpots last month, a record for March and sixth highest monthly figure since the facility opened in 2007. That was the eighth straight time it set a record for that particular month. February’s mark was $8,469,665.
Seven casinos posted a slots revenue boost in March, led by Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin at 6.42 percent (from $2,493,840.85 to $2,653,912.88 last month).
Pittsburgh’s Rivers Casino, conversely, experienced the largest percent decrease over the year. 3.8 percent. Revenue there dropped to $23,545,620.55 from $24,474,712.25 a year earlier.
Slots play generated $112,846,773 in tax revenue in March.
The average number of machines operating daily was 26,415 last month, 79 more than February 2015.
