Crafty move: Art-related business switches locales
Stone House Vintage Market opened in downtown Washington in August. Six months later, it is leaving.
But that isn’t a bad thing, for the owners or the city. Jennifer Hoffman and her spouse, Sean Fox, plan to relocate their market from 254 N. Main St. to 899 E. Maiden St. – and into a more workable location.
“We’re quadrupling our space – about 4,500 square feet,” Hoffman said. “We’re so excited.”
She said they plan to open by March 1, but are shooting for a Feb. 26 launch.
Paint is the operative word at Stone House, which features the decorative Chalk Paint, developed by internationally acclaimed Annie Sloan. Hoffman and Fox offer painting workshops, classes and parties, and paint what they call “reloved” furniture for customers. They also sell handcrafted jewelry, silk scarfs, purses and other items, some made by other local crafters.
The relocation, she said, was almost inevitable from the start.
“We knew when we first rented space that it was on smaller side,” Hoffman said. “We knew we’d move, but we didn’t think it would be this soon.”
She and Fox live in Greensburg, but deal with the commute. Each owned a business there, and while he still has his, Hoffman sold hers to focus on their Washington endeavor.
Store hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, but some activities are scheduled outside those time frames.
Ben Brown is a commercial real estate broker for Beynon & Co. Inc. in Pittsburgh. He also is an East Washington resident whose firm was involved in three recent transactions:
• Brown himself sold about 14 acres on Weavertown Road, near Interstate 79, in North Strabane Township to Weavertown 79 Partners LLC. The company plans to start work in the spring on a self-storage facility called 79 Self Storage.
“The number of groups looking to purchase property in the 79 corridor continues to grow and reflects the current business environment of our area,” Brown said.
• Beynon’s Darin Shriver leased about 3,500 square of retail space at 907 Jefferson Ave., Washington, to D&S Industrial Fasteners for a distribution office. D&S is an independent supplier of fasteners, tools, industrial safety products and material handling equipment based in Coraopolis.
• Beynon listed for sale the Washington-East Washington Joint Authority building at 60 E. Beau St., Washington.
• Judi Agostinelli, of Century 21 Frontier Realty, has been named Realtor of the Year for 2015 by the Washington Greene Association of Realtors. Agostinelli, a Realtor for 23 years, was honored at a ceremony at Rolling Hills Country Club, Peters Township. Her office is at 4121 Washington Road, Peters.
• Jessica McCort, Ph.D., has been appointed assistant professor of composition and rhetoric, and the coordinator of the Writing Intensive Program at Point Park University, Pittsburgh. She is a Fredericktown native now living in Washington. The University Press of Mississippi this spring will release an essay collection she edited titled, “Reading in the Dark: Horror in Children’s Literature and Culture.”
