Upon further review, S. Strabane OKs Dunkin’ Donuts plan
Dunkin’ Donuts will be coming to South Strabane after all. Township supervisors reconsidered an application from Heartland Restaurant Group for a final land development approval for a Dunkin’ Donuts at Murtland Avenue and Raymond Boulevard.
On Nov. 24, the previous administration denied the application for the 1,849-square-foot restaurant with drive-through, citing traffic concerns at an already-busy intersection.
Dan Orie of Heartland told the board March 8 the application should have been approved because the denial notice the company received did not address any defects in its application.
Township Solicitor Jack Cambest advised the board all zoning requirements were met, and that for the company to obtain a highway occupancy permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, it needs final land development approval from the township.
After discussion, the application was approved. Supervisors Bob Weber, Thomas Moore and Laynee Zipko voted yes; Jack Keisling and Edward Mazur voted no.
There is only one Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant in Washington County – the one that opened May 4 on Cavasina Drive, Canonsburg.
Another, however, is planned for Washington Road, Peters Township, where Eat’n Park closed in late February.
A new Eat’n Park opened in Peters about two weeks later, a quarter-mile north of the former facility.
Dunkin’ Donuts does not have a presence in Greene County.
