Mike Jones, who has served as bureau chief of the Observer-Reporter’s Greene County news operations in Waynesburg for the past two years, has been named regional editor in charge of the Greene County bureau and The Almanac, the O-R’s weekly newspaper covering the South Hills.

Jones, 33, of Washington, grew up in Mt. Lebanon, delivering The Almanac during his childhood, before graduating from high school in 2001.

He graduated with a journalism degree from West Virginia University in 2005.

He began working at the O-R in November 2006, before spending three years at AOL’s Patch.com online news service covering Pittsburgh’s South Hills from 2010 until 2013.

Jones returned to the O-R in April 2013, first working as a staff writer and later as Greene County bureau chief.

He will continue to manage the Waynesburg bureau and cover Greene County stories, while also overseeing The Almanac staff at that publication’s office on Boyce Road in Upper St. Clair.
