Fried chicken fans, take heed. Popeyes is coming, but it’s going to be a little late.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, currently under construction in the former Long John Silver’s at 301C Oak Spring Road, South Strabane Township, is now scheduled to open by the first week of August.

Sam Durrani, chief operating officer of owner and operator AR Group of Restaurants, said in an email that crews are in the final stage of construction, but did not say why the opening was delayed.

The fast-food chain, originally scheduled to open in May, and then July, sells New Orleans-style chicken and side dishes.

AR Group currently operates 30 Popeyes locations in five states. Durrani said staffing of the South Strabane location will start July 24. The group is seeking managers and crew members.

Building permits from the township were secured in January.

The closest restaurants to the South Strabane location are in Pittsburgh and North Versailles.
