84 Lumber owner to be recognized by national women’s business organization
84 Lumber Co. owner Maggie Hardy Magerko has been selected by Women’s Business Enterprise National Council as one of 25 Women of Distinction, representing businesses across the country.
As part of WBENC’s 20th anniversary celebration, the organization is recognizing an exclusive group of WBENC-Certified women business owners. Honorees are selected based upon a deep commitment to the organization and to breaking down barriers for women-owned businesses in the corporate and government supply chains.
Building upon a tremendous year in 2016, during which 84 Lumber was recognized by Forbes as one of “America’s 250 Best Mid-Size Employers” and “Largest Private Companies,” Hardy Magerko has been a driving force for the success of the Eighty Four-based company – the country’s largest privately held supplier of building materials.
In addition to leading 84 Lumber, Hardy Magerko serves as president and owner of Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington. She and her businesses will be honored at WBENC’s annual Summit & Salute event next week in New Orleans.

With offices in Canonsburg, Alpha/Omega was the only public relations firm in the Washington County area to be recognized as among the best. Expertise.com based its evaluations on five criteria: reputation, credibility, experience, availability and professionalism.
The agency, a full-service public relations, marketing, branding and advertising firm, was founded by Joe Cerenzia, who has more than 35 years of experience in corporate communications in the energy and agency businesses. The firm includes Lynn Mancuso Manning, principal, with more than 30 years of experience in media and corporate communications; Lisa Mark Cerenzia, principal, with more than 30 years of experience in the insurance and financial industries; Joe Manning, managing director, with more than 25 years of experience in media and public service; and Dan Briner, IT manager, with more than 40 years of experience in media and information technology.
NiSource Inc., the parent company of Southpointe-based Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, has been designated as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute.
NiSource is one of six companies in this year’s gas utility category.
Ethisphere honors those companies who recognize their role in society to influence and drive positive change, consider the impact of their actions on their employees, investors, customers and other key stakeholders and use their values and culture as an underpinning to the decisions they make every day.

Washington attorney David Posner recently received the Gilbert Nurick Award at the statewide Conference of County Bar Leaders in State College. Posner also received Washington County Bar Association’s Robert L. Ceisler Professionalism Award. Both were awarded in recognition of his decades of service to the profession of law.
Posner, a partner in the Washington law firm of Goldfarb Posner Beck DeHaven and Drewitz, currently serves on the Pennsylvania Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts Board and previously served a six-year term on a hearing committee of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. He was President of Washington County Bar Association in 1995 and currently serves as chairperson of its Professionalism Committee.
Daniel DePra, P.E., joined GAI Consultants’ Pittsburgh office as its director of project management. He comes to GAI with more than 23 years of diverse experience managing large civil and environmental projects, and leading companywide initiatives to improve project delivery and empower project managers.
He is a board certified environmental engineer and a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
DePra holds a master’s degree in civil engineering and bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering and chemistry, all from the University of Pittsburgh.
