MVA launches crowdfunding platform
CHARLEROI – The Mon Valley Alliance has launched Mon Valley Momentum, a crowdfunding platform that accepts donations online for projects initiated by the communities the economic development community organization serves.
According to a news release from MVA, the site is similar to popular crowdfunding sites such as KickStartr and Go Fund Me, but is designed to support community projects and exclusively serves the communities that make up the Mid Mon Valley.
The site is hosted in conjunction with the Mon Valley Alliance’s website at www.monvalleyalliance.org. Momentum is accepting projects from municipalities and other organizations in an effort to bridge funding gaps as well as to involve more of the community in efforts to better the Mon Valley region.
“Online giving has been growing exponentially and MVA wanted to create another tool for the continued growth of our communities,” said Christopher Whitlatch, CEO of the Mon Valley Alliance.
“With state and federal funding opportunities increasingly under threat, it is our goal to increase resources for projects that will improve our communities and bring people together for greater impact on our future.”
Momentum is a project of the Mon Valley Alliance Foundation, a registered 501 (c) 3 charitable organization. All donations on the site are secure and are tax deductible.
The first community project featured on the site is Fallowfield Elementary Park. Fallowfield Township is creating enhanced recreational opportunities in an effort to attract new residents, including revitalization of its ballfields, expansion of an existing pavilion and the addition of new playground equipment.
“MVA will continue to seek innovative ways to serve our communities,” said Whitlatch. “With the Community Development Funds launched earlier this year and now Momentum, MVA is building the tools for the Mon Valley to drive community development, create more opportunities for our residents and contribute to the health and welfare of our region.”
Momentum can be accessed at https://www.monvalleyalliance.org/mon-valley-momentum/ and is available to accept secure online donations. The crowdfunding initiative is open to any community group that is seeking to raise money for a specific project.
