Gasoline prices in Western Pennsylvania dipped 2.0 cents this week, dropping the average cost of a gallon of unleaded self-serve is $3.087, according to a report Monday from AAA East Central. That figure is 54.5 cents higher than it was a year ago, at $2.542.

For the second week in a row, Washington’s price is below that regional average, at $3.065. That also is down 2.0 cents from last week’s figure, $3.085. Pennsylvania’s figure is $3.06, up one cent.

The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region has 66.3 million barrels of gasoline inventory, a solid figure, according to Energy Information Administration. Although gas prices are much higher than a year ago, the inventory is up about 2 million over that period, which may result in a stabilization or decrease in prices at the pump next week.

The average price nationally is $2.84, the lowest level since early May.

Washington’s price of $3.065 is the fifth lowest among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA. Du Bois ($2.978) and Sharon ($3.017) had the lowest averages, Brookville ($3.160) the highest.
