Gas prices up slightly in Washington, inch down in region
Gasoline prices in Western Pennsylvania dipped a half-cent this week, dropping the average cost of a gallon of unleaded self-serve is $3.082, according to a report Monday from AAA East Central. That figure is 53.4 cents higher than it was a year ago, at $2.548.
For the third week in a row, Washington’s price – $3.072 – is below the regional average. But the city’s average went up 0.7 cents from last week’s figure, $3.065. Pennsylvania’s figure is $3.04, up one cent.
The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region experienced a one-million-barrel decline over the week, the largest drop in the United States. But the region’s 65.2 million inventory is 3 million higher than it was at this time last year, a level that could help stabilize gas prices.
The average price nationally is $2.86, a 2.0-cent increase.
Washington’s price of $3.072 is the eighth lowest among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA. Clarion’s average price of $2.935 was the only figure below $3. Brookville ($3.175) had the highest average.
