Washington, Greene among natural gas leaders in state
Drilling and natural gas production have been going full bore in Washington and Greene counties, according to a report from the Pennsylvania Independent Fiscal Office.
Its Natural Gas Production Report, for 2016 and 2017, shows Washington was first among the 67 counties in the state in the number of gas-producing wells both years – 1,200 in 2016 and 1,370 last year.
Washington was second in natural gas production each time, with 838.7 billion of cubic feet equivalent in 2016 and 945.5 bcfe in 2017. Susquehanna County was No. 1 both years, with 1,210.8 and 1,304.9 bcfe respectively.
Greene County was fourth in those categories both years, with 764 wells and 691.4 bcfe in 2016 and 857 wells and 658.1 bcfe in 2017.
The report also stated that four counties – Susquehanna, Washington, Bradford and Greene – accounted for two-thirds of statewide production.
Pennsylvania remains the second-largest natural gas producing state, behind Texas.
