Gasoline prices in Western Pennsylvania have risen to their highest level in four years.

They went up another 4.0 cents this week to an average of $3.099 for a gallon of unleaded self-serve, according to a report Monday from AAA East Central. That figure is 46.7 cents higher than it was a year ago.

Pennsylvania’s prices also jumped about four cents to $3.08 per gallon, one of the 10 most expensive markets in the nation. Fourteen states have an average of $3.00 or more, and the U.S. average is $2.93. Nationally, the cost of gas has jumped six cents each of the past two weeks.

Washington posted an average of $3.156 this week, second highest among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA. Only Jeannette ($3.166) had a higher average. Greensburg was 20th at $3.147. Washington’s average rose 5.8 cents over the week.

Sharon ($2.982) and Altoona ($2.992) were the only regions in Western Pennsylvania with an average below $3.00.
