Average gasoline prices have risen for a second consecutive week in Western Pennsylvania, nudging up 1.5 cents from last week to $3.119, according to a report from AAA East Central.
That figure is 24.8 cents higher than it was a year ago, at $2.871.
Washington’s price inched up 1.2 cents to $3.079, or 4 cents below the regional average. The average price nationally is $2.85, two cents higher than last week, but 19 cents more expensive than a year ago.
The average price was up about 2 cents in Pennsylvania, but costs were otherwise about the same throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region. Gasoline inventories there increased nearly 2 million barrels, the only region nationally to experience a buildup over the week, according to the Energy Information Administration. The region has a total of 66 million barrels.
Prices are expected to decline in September, following the switchover to winter-blend gasoline on Saturday. Hurricane Florence could have an impact on the cost.
Washington’s price of $3.079 is the sixth-lowest average among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA. Sharon ($3.019) has the lowest figure for the second week in a row; Uniontown ($3.048) is third. Kittanning ($3.192) has the highest average.
