Gasoline prices have risen again in Western Pennsylvania, but not as severely as they usually have in recent months.
A gallon of unleaded self-serve averages $3.103 across the region this week, AAA East Central announced Monday afternoon. That is a bump of only four-tenths of a cent from last week, and is 5.1 cents higher than it was a year ago.
Washington likewise experienced a small increase from last week, six-tenths of a cent $3.060 to $3.066. Washington’s average has jumped 60.5 cents from $2.461 Jan. 8.
The city’s average is the sixth-lowest among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns monitored by AAA. Altoona, for the second week in a row, has the cheapest gas at $2.943 – down 5.0 cents over the week. DuBois ($2.985) is the only other town with an average below $3.00. Jeannette ($3.187) has the most expensive petrol, but that price is just 2.44 cents higher than Altoona’s
Pennsylvania’s average remained $3.05. Gasoline stocks in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region, which includes the Keystone State, declined by about 500,000 barrels, the Energy Information Administration reported. That kept price changes moderate. But gas stocks are at a low level in the region, 59 million barrels.
The national average rose one cent to $2.89. Pump prices dropped or held steady in 27 states, the biggest declines being registered in Delaware (four cents), Kentucky (three cents) and North Carolina (three cents).
