Armory offering classes

for middle schoolers

The Armory Youth Center in Canonsburg, located directly across the street from Canonsburg Middle School, has introduced a new program to serve middle school students in the community.

Armory After School, which began in November, attracted about 50 students for classes in pickleball, basketball, candy making, mixed martial arts and card making.

“We are endeavoring to provide middle school students with a positive place to learn new skills and develop new interests while keeping it affordable for families,” said Meredith Hoskins, Armory After School director. “We are excited to grow this program to reach more students and to continue to offer a well-rounded program highlighting a variety of sports and special interests.”

Classes, which are taught by volunteers, are one hour per week for four to eight weeks. Most classes are free, and Hoskins said fees are reasonable for the other classes.

The next session begins in January.

“We will continue a couple of our sports classes from our first session and we’ve added several new classes such as a tap dance class, a repurposing project class where students will refurbish small pieces of furniture and a baseball skills class,” Hoskins said.
