It’s hard to believe that it is already time to say “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Holidays” and “Happy New Year.” As we celebrate this holiday season, I hope we will be able to spend time with family and friends. Let us use this time to reflect and count our many blessings.
Here are a few safety tips that will hopefully keep you and yours safe throughout the Christmas season and throughout the year. As we decorate our homes with beautiful trees and lighting displays, please take a moment to check your extension cords and make sure they are in perfect condition along with your Christmas displays. Be careful not to overload your circuits. May I caution you to make sure your chimneys for both your fireplace and your furnace are in proper working order and cleaned.
In practicing fire prevention, your fire department would like to make sure that both your smoke detectors and the batteries in them are also in proper working order.
As you venture out to visit with family and friends or to do your last-minute Christmas shopping, make sure that all doors at your homes and in your cars are locked at all times.
Always remember to not drink and drive, and if you do drink, please ask someone who has not been drinking to take you home.
As the year 2017 comes to an end, we sometimes forget to thank the people who help to make Canonsburg a wonderful place to live, to work and to play. I would like to thank the fire department, police department, emergency medical services, public works department, sewer authority, borough administration and borough council for the important work that is done all year long. These fine individuals work diligently around the clock each day.
As always, my open-door policy remains in effect. So many of you have stopped into my office or have visited throughout our community to offer new ideas and opinions to better Canonsburg, which I truly appreciate. I encourage you all to visit me at my office, or if you are unable to visit, please call.
From my wife Kimberly and I, and all of the Rhome family, we wish you and your family all the love and blessings of the season and a prosperous New Year. We look forward with anticipation to a great year in 2018.
