Canonsburg Town Park Pool will open Memorial Day weekend for its 83rd season. Long-awaited plans for repairs to the pool house roof and structural walls have been approved and bids are being gathered now. Work should be completed in 2018. Look for the new slide to be installed in the deep end this year as well.

Renovations to other park amenities are prioritized and funding is being pursued. Playgrounds, pathways and walking trails, parking lots and drainage are all being submitted as part of several grant applications, as well as ADA improvements for accessibility to all. The main water fountain and steps are going to be one of the first projects rehabilitated and plans to replace the BPW Pavilion are on the drawing board.

Camp Splash will start on June 18 and end Aug. 3 (seven weeks). To make your reservations or for more information, please contact Leah Drain at 412-327-3993.

The third outdoor season of Canonsburg Pickleball is fast approaching. This year, we have initiated a fundraising campaign and membership fee to help establish permanent courts in the park. The membership fee goes toward balls, new nets and miscellaneous expenses. Pickleball is played weekdays from 5:30 to 9 p.m., Saturday at 9 a.m. and Sunday at a time to be determined. The weather will determine the beginning of April play. Play is free with membership.

The skateboard park is now open and we are currently looking at ways to reduce the noise level. Also, the softball concession has been improved with new serving windows and a tankless hot water heater.

New Park Board members are working to “get the word out.” Social media and e-newsletters will help secure our park as a regional (55-acre) asset for all surrounding communities to enjoy.

Watch for the activities – concerts, bonfires, 4th of July celebrations and recreation are all on the agenda this year – as we are looking forward to a great summer in the park.

The Dining Around the Pool event that was held in September was a huge success. We raised close to $23,000, which is phenomenal considering we only could accommodate two-thirds of the number of people that we had at the last major event in 2012. Space was limited since we weren’t dining “in the pool” this time. Texas Roadhouse was our event sponsor.

Special thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers, for without the hard work, dedication and generosity, this event and our wonderful park would not be what it is today.
