It’s hard to believe it’s December, and the Christmas season is upon us once again. It is my hope that everyone will take a minute to reflect and remember the many happy times you and yours have shared throughout the year. As we celebrate Christmas and the start of a New Year with family and friends, may the spirit of Christmas bring us closer and grant us peace, hope and love.

Canonsburg has come together this year with the planning of a Canonsburg Old Fashioned Christmas, with the theme of “Home for the Holidays.” The town is decked with lights, decorations and displays. It has been a heartwarming experience as people from our community and surrounding communities have all pitched in to make this event “one-of-a-kind”, as only Canonsburg can do. It reminds me why our town is so special and boosts my Christmas spirit to an all new high. The Hallmark Channel covered our event, it is my hope that our little town will be an example to others as we show them how to come together as one to celebrate Christmas and restore love and peace throughout the world. I personally want to thank all the volunteers that contributed to making our town a “Hallmark Special Moment.”

As always, safety is very important to me. Please be careful while decorating your trees and houses with lighting displays, take extra time to check all extension cords and make sure they are in perfect condition. Be careful not to overload circuits. Make sure chimneys for both fireplaces and furnaces are cleaned and in proper working order. Check smoke detectors to make sure the batteries are good.

Our police department would like to remind you that as you venture out to visit family and friends, or do last-minute Christmas shopping, please make sure that all doors in your homes and cars are locked. Also, remember not to drink and drive. It’s always best to have a designated driver.

As the year comes to an end, sometimes we forget to thank those who help to make Canonsburg a wonderful place to live, to work and to play. May I thank the fire, police and public works departments, emergency medical services, sewer authority and borough administration and council for the important work they do year-round. These fine individuals work diligently around the clock for your safety and protection.

From my wife, Kimberly, and our entire family, may we wish you a Blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
