JEFFERSON – A Bobtown man suffered minor injuries Tuesday night when his vehicle ran off Route 188 in Jefferson Borough, struck two utility poles, knocked down a half dozen mailboxes and hit the corner of a house, state police said.

Andrew Michael Novak, 26, was treated at Southwest Regional Medical Center in Waynesburg. Police said they suspect Novak was under the influence of an unknown substance, possibly alcohol, and charges will be filed pending receipt of toxicology tests.

Novak was driving east at a high speed at 11:53 p.m. when his vehicle ran off the northbound side of the road and sheared off about a 15-foot section of a utility pole, police said.

The vehicle continued along the sidewalk, knocking over three mailboxes and striking another utility pole before rolling onto its side.

The vehicle then knocked down three more mailboxes and struck the corner of a house, where it came to rest. Police said Novak was not wearing a seat belt.
