This is the first nursery I’ve done that has a desk in it and I love it. I can already envision Mario coloring and reading his books in that space. Photo courtesy of

I can imagine there also will be crayon markings on the white wood in a few years. I don’t care - it will give Mario’s space more character.Photo courtesy of

Nursery Tip: Choose an accent color and add pieces around the room in that color. In Mario’s room, I chose orange as an accent color. I found an orange throw, a candle, an orange monkey, a “quote” plate, a towel hook with orange in it and other little touches to complete his room. Photo courtesy of

The day after we got home from the hospital, I spent the whole morning in our new baby boy’s nursery.

We put the bedding in his crib, added books and bookends to the desk, picked an accent color and brought “boy” into the neutral room!. I’m continuing to work on the wall space above his crib and desk but even though his room isn’t complete, I’m so excited to show it off! And even more excited to fill all of the picture frames with the new photos from our session with Robin Kimberly Photography.

One of my favorite things about this room is that the furniture doesn’t all match. I knew early on in my pregnancy that I wanted white furniture in the nursery so my husband, Brian, refinished two older pieces we had and they turned out beautifully!

Nursery Tip: Using different style furniture, colors and woods throughout a room gives the room more depth and texture.

Mario’s bedding is from my older son Roman’s nursery (3 years ago) and I still love it. It’s from Pottery Barn Kids and I’ve always been happy with the quality of their items. This set must have been popular too because PBK kept it in its Baby Boy Collection and have added more items – rugs, wall decals and accessories. I ordered the Monkey Rug and had it rush shipped … I love it! (See first photo above.)
