Model railroad group to hold open house
Back-to-School Model Railroad Open House will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Mon Valley Railroad Historical Society Inc., 128 Pleasant St., Morgantown, W.Va.
There will be steam and diesel locomotives pulling heavy freight up steep mountain grades, and a coal train will snake its way through winding curves past the mine and company town.
The society also has the largest HO scale model railroad in northcentral West Virginia, with almost 700 feet of mainline. It is based on how the railroads operated in West Virginia.
In addition, a new program, “Be a Visiting Engineer,” will be offered. For a $5 donation, guests can run one of the society’s four trains for 20 minutes. There also will be a Chinese auction, model railroad videos, railroad music, a white-elephant table containing model railroad items and refreshments.
Admission is free, although donations will be accepted.
