U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-18th District, will hold his annual Academy Information Day at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Chartiers Valley High School in Bridgeville.

Each year, Murphy nominates up to 10 outstanding high school students for open student slots at the nation’s four military service academies: the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marines Academy, U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy. The competitive process is open to students who display exemplary academic achievement and commitment to serving the community.

Students who reside in the 18th Congressional District and are interested in applying to one of the academies for fall 2014 are invited.

Representatives from each of the academies will give a brief overview of their academy, and there will be time afterward for students and their parents to speak individually with the representatives. Students interested in attending one of the academies must receive a congressional appointment.

For more information about the academy nomination process, contact Elaine Klofta in Murphy’s Mt. Lebanon office at 412-344-5583 or elaine.klofta@mail.house.gov.
