The American Cancer Society is looking for local residents to help finish the fight against cancer by reaching full enrollment in a historic research study.

Cancer Prevention Study-3 will give scientists a better understanding of cancer causes and prevention. The society is looking for local men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 from various racial/ethnic backgrounds who have no personal history of cancer.

Residents can enroll in CPS-3 May 21 to June 14 at various sites in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Washington counties.

Washington County sites include:

• Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center, 240 Wellness Way, Washington, conference rooms A and B, 7 to 11 a.m. May 21.

• Faith United Presbyterian Church, 900 E. Beau St., Washington, social hall, 3 to 7 p.m. May 23.

• Consol Energy Inc., CNX Center, 1000 Consol Energy Drive, Canonsburg, conference room 1B03, 7 to 11 a.m. June 4.

• Monongahela Valley Hospital, 1163 Country Club Drive, Monongahela, Education Conference Center, 8 a.m. to noon June 6.

For a complete list of sites, dates and times, visit www.greaterpittsburghCPS3.org.

Signing up requires a one-time in-person visit to read and sign a consent form, complete a survey, have your waist measured and give a blood sample.

Participants also will complete a more detailed survey at home and continue to receive periodic follow-up surveys that researchers will use to look for more clues to cancer’s causes.

For more information on the study or how to enroll, call 412-919-1100 or 888-227-5445.
