Fort Vance Historical Society is hosting a program on the old Burgettstown Fair, originally know as the Union Agricultural Fair, at 10 a.m. Saturday at Burgettstown Community Library, 2 Kerr St. Kathryn Slasor will be guest speaker. Attendees are welcome to bring any souvenirs from the fair to be shared with the group attending. The program is free.
A shrub hike and moss walk will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Raccoon Creek State Park, Hookstown. Participants should meet at Wildflower Reserve Interpretive Center on Route 30. In the shrub hike, participants will learn about the folklore, history, use, and how to identify common shrubs. In the moss walk, attendees will learn about the strange lives of mosses, interesting uses and how to identify common mosses. A good magnifying glass is suggested. Both programs are free. Raccoon Lake Evening Nature Paddle will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at Raccoon Creek State Park, Hookstown. Participants should meet at the boat launch by the boat concession along Raccoon Park Road at 5:45 p.m. Join park educators for a guided evening nature paddle exploring the shoreline and wetlands areas of Raccoon Lake.
