Commonwealth Computer Recycling, in partnership with the McGuffey School District, will hold a free electronics recycling event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the McGuffey High School student parking lot.
Residents and small businesses will receive free computer recycling services, with onsite hard-drive destruction available for $10. The company has been holding free public electronics recycling events in response to the state Covered Device Act, which went into effect Jan. 24. The law eliminates municipal handling of waste electronics and requires that all items be disposed of through certified recyclers.
Residents are encouraged to bring their unused or unwanted computers, monitors, printers, televisions and DVD players. Recycling is free for all Pennsylvania residents and businesses with no more than 50 employees.
All personal data will be removed from any device with memory or internal storage after collection.Donations are welcome, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the McGuffey School District.
