4-H collecting items for two initiatives

4-H County Council will be collecting items for Operation Christmas Child and Operation Support Our Troops.

For Operation Christmas Child, the following types of items are requested: Toys, school supplies, hygiene items, candy, gum, T-shirts, socks, sunglasses, ball caps, watches, flashlights with batteries and hair clips, etc. Do not donate war-related items such as toy guns, knives, military figures, chocolate, food, liquids, lotions, medications, vitamins, breakable items such as glass containers or aerosol cans.

Donors may enclose a note to the child and a photo. If you include your name and address, the child may write back.

For Operation Support Our Troops, the following items are request: individual cold drink mix packets (Gatorade, Propel, etc), jerky, granola bars, nuts (20 ounces or less), cereal/breakfast bars, flyswatters/flystrips, sunscreen (8 ounces or less, no aerosol), antibiotic or anti-itch cream, witamins (Multi or C-100 count or less), insect repellent wipes or spray (8 ounnces or less, no aerosol). Do not donate glass items, larger sizes than listed or expired items. No prepacked boxes can be accepted.

Items will be collected at the Penn State Extension Office and the 4-H Junior Building at Washington County Fairgrounds. There will be dropoff boxes available during the Washington County Fair.
