Bentleyville Library hosting program on quilts

Bentleyville Library will present “Underground Railroad in Quilts?” at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Cassandra Gunkel, a history professor at Manor College, will present the prorgam. Her relatives quilted for African-American communities in North Carolina and Virginia. unkel researches and teaches cultural traditions, fiber arts and Pennsylvania history.

She also travels with a collection of historic and reproduction quilts that showcase the ways women kept track of their lives and experiences with needle and thread.
