Barbara Balaz of Washington will celebrate her 100th birthday with a cake and ice cream social with residents of Humbert Lane Personal Care and her family and friends.

She was born November 27, 1913, in Ellsworth. As a young child, she and her family moved to Slovokia.

On July 25, 1933, she married George Balaz.

Mrs. Balaz returned to the United States in 1935 without her husband. She worked hard as a housemaid to earn enough money to bring her husband to the country.

She has two sons, George Balaz of Pittsburgh and Richard Balaz of Washington; and two grandsons.

She enjoyed reading, watching TV, singing and going to church. The last church she attended was First Presbyterian Church of Bentleyville.
