According to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, licensed food establishments must employ one supervisory employee who has successfully completed a food safety training class.

To help food establishments meet this requirement, Penn State Extension is offering a food safety training course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 24 and 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 1 at the Washington County Penn State Extension Office in Washington.

Course fee of $175 per person covers the cost of the ServSafe course book, instructional materials and refreshment breaks. Registration is required. For more information, a brochure or to register, call the Penn State Extension Office in Westmoreland County at 724-837-1402. Registration also is available online at extension.psu.edu/food-safety/events.

Completing the necessary training and passing the associated exam brings licensed food establishments into compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Food Employee Certification Act.
