Washington Drug and Alcohol Commission Inc. will host a Recovery Walk Friday, beginning at the Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church in Washington, as part of National Drug and Alcohol Addiction Recovery Month.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a proclamation and speakers at 9 and the walk at 9:45. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 125 participants, and refreshments will be provided.

Last year, the commission served nearly 2,000 county residents struggling with substance abuse issues, and more than 40 people died from drug overdoses. The event is designed to increase awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders.

To register, call the Washington Drug and Alcohol Commission at 724-223-1181, ext. 120.
