Shane LaBarge, a student at California University of Pennsylvania, has won $15,000 toward his college education through the nonprofit LIFE Foundation’s LIFE Lessons Scholarship Program. This year, the foundation provided $125,000 in financial assistance to 24 students who have lost a parent or guardian and are trying to attend college. LaBarge was given the grand prize for his essay, which illustrated his personal struggles and perseverance after losing his father without the benefit of life insurance.

Adrienne Prentice graduated from Marietta College, where she majored in environmental studies. Prentice was inducted into the first class of the Kappa Alpha Omicron honorary in the spring. She also was a member of the Order of Omega, received the David F. Young Scholarship and participated in Up ’til Dawn to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She is is 2009 graduate of McGuffey High School, and her parents are Gregory and Vivian Prentice of Claysville. Prentice is employed by Oil & Gas Title Abstracting LLC.
