A “Bash the Brownies and Birdies” will be held Sept. 6 at Chartiers Valley Shopping Center, Bridgeville, for the Children’s Organ Transplant Association in honor of Rachel Thomas, a Pittsburgh-area child who has had a live-donor liver transplant from her father, John.
Rachel, 3, received a liver transplant at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and money raised will assist with transplant-related expenses.
The event is a car bash with auction items and kids games. The first few “bashes” of the car will be auctioned off at 1:30 pm. An auction of other items and Steelers merchandise, including Steeler game tickets, also will be held.
There also will be kids games, prizes and a 50/50 drawing.
Rachel was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a rare disease that occurs when the bile ducts inside or outside the liver to not develop normally. The family needs an estimated $30,000 to pay transplant-related expenses. Rachel’s family asked for assistance from COTA, a national charity based in Bloomington, Ind. COTA is dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising money for transplant-related expenses.
