Shiloh Bible Institute is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

The school was started and is operated by Pastor Ed Popovich. His wife, Janet, is co-pastor and was a member of the first graduation class.

The school opened in 1984 in Avella. It consists of a three-year program, and even though Shiloh is not a credited college, the full gospel Bible-based school has produced a number of graduates who have become pastors. Shiloh has graduated 295 students, including 285 since its moved to Washington.

At one time, classes for first-year students were held at the George Washington Hotel in Washington, while second- and third-year students attended classes in Avella.

Classes were held briefly at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Washington, then on Jefferson Avenue in Washington. Twenty years ago, Shiloh relocated to its current home at 147 Griffith Ave., Washington.

In conjunction with Shiloh’s 30th anniversary, the church building is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
