Anastasia Alberty and Rio Maropis received the inaugural JP Pankas Memorial Scholarship presented by the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association Chapter 156 of Canonsburg. Alberty, daughter of Jackie Alberty of Mt. Lebanon, is a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School and attends the University of Pittsburgh, where she is pursuing a degree in pharmacy. She was a member of the National Honor Society and a cheerleader. Maropis, daughter of Dr. Chris Maropis of Oakdale, is a graduate of West Allegheny High School and attends the University of Pittsburgh, where she is majoring in education. She also is a member of the Pitt marching band. The scholarship is funded by the executors of the John and Harriet Pankas estate.
