Lignian – 90 years

Marshall Lignian of Carroll Township celebrated his 90th birthday with a few close friends and relatives at the Monongahela Elks Club Jan. 11. He was surprised to have his niece and her husband from Tucson, Ariz., and his niece from Buffalo, N.Y., in attendance.
He was born January 8, 1924, in Coudersport, to Leola Young and Marshall Lignian. He is the only surviving member of his family, being the youngest of three children.
In October 1998, he married June Shook of New Eagle.
Mr. Lignian joined the U.S. Navy in May 1944 and served in the European Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged in May 1946. He graduated from Penn State University in 1948 with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering and was employed by Corning Inc. until his retirement in 1986. He is a member of Masonic Lodge 342 and the Consistory in Coudersport, George Washington chapter of Sons of the American Revolution in Washington and Mid Mon Valley Shipmates in Monongahela. Mr. Lignian is very active in a flag program for fifth-grade students.
He and his wife are active longtime members of First United Methodist Church of Monongahela.
