The George Washington Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is asking churches, synagogues and spiritual organizations to participlate in Allegiance Sunday, which will be recognized July 6.

Unlike Memorial Day, which honors servicemen and women who died, and Veterans Day, which honors those who have served in all wars, Allegiance Sunday is a day of personal feeling and expression. Those who participate reaffirm their fealty and love of country and demonstrate that love in declaring their allegiance.

On Allegiance Sunday, SAR would like congregations and organizations to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and/or sing some patriotic hymns.

This is a national SAR project, and churches that participate are asked to send a copy of their July 6 bulletin to George Washington Chapter, c/o Gary Timmons, 13 Elm Lane, Wheeling, WV, 26003-4905. They will be tabulated, and a report will be send to the national society.
