Westmoreland Co. hosts cattle feeder’s seminar

Penn State Extension livestock team will hold its second annual Western Pennsylvania Cattle Feeder’s Seminar March 25 at the Westmoreland County Extension office in Greensburg.

Dinner will begin at 6 p.m., and the program, which will address economics, marketing opportunities and challenges and health management, will be held from 6:30 to 9:30.

Industry updates will be presented by Bridget Bingham of the Pennsylvania Center for Beef Excellence and Ann Nogan of the Pennsylvania Beef Council. The three main speakers and their topics will be:

• Dr. Jonathan Campbell, Penn State Meat Extension specialist, who will discuss “Understanding Meat Labels – A Look Inside a Confusing Topic for Consumers;”

• Curtis McFadden, cattle procurement director, JBS USA, “Understanding the JBS Contract;”

• Dr. Dave Wolfgang, Penn State Extension veterinarian, “Using Antibiotics Wisely.”

Fee is $20 and includes dinner. Advance registration is required by visiting http://extension.psu.edu/beef/events. Those who are unable to register online should call the extension office in Greene County at 724-627-3745. Registration deadline is March 21.
