Cal U. names Community Champions
California University of Pennsylvania has announced the winners of its inaugural Cal U. Community Champions Award. The award honors men and women who have made significant contributions of time and talent to the university and its students. The campus community nominates community members who have made contributions in areas such as academic enrichment, research, internship opportunities, mentoring or career development. Winners are:
• Walter Klorczyk of Monongahela, a volunteer who has been instrumental in the success of the university’s Civil War Roundtable. Klorczyk is a founding member of the roundtable, which attracts more than 100 members to its educational programs each month.
• Justin Schiefelbein of Brownsville, assistant director at the Vulcan Village housing complex on Cal U.’s upper campus. An employee of EdR Inc., which manages Vulcan Village, Schiefelbein supervises and mentors Cal U. students who serve as community assistants at the complex.
• Joseph Stefko of Greensburg, recently retired wildlife conservation officer at the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Stefko worked to create an internship program for Cal U. students, and he has mentored and trained students in Cal U.’s fisheries and wildlife biology program.
