Nick Larimer and Ryan Williams, juniors at Peters Township High School, will represent Pennsylvania in the National History Day competition June 15-19 at the University of Maryland. Larimer and Williams advanced to the national competition after placing first at the “National History Day in Pennsylvania” contest held recently at Millersville University. They were among nine Peters Township students who represented Western Pennsylvania at the state contest. Their Senior Group Documentary entry was called “Res Omnium Communes: When is There Not a Right of Sovereignty?” The documentary investigated the property rights in Roman times.

Other place-winners at Millersville were eighth-graders Mekhela Santebennur and Shruthi Shivkumar, who finished fifth in Junior Group Performance with their entry, “Women’s Rights: Striving to Achieve Equality,” and junior Alex Franco, who placed sixth in Senior Division Individual Performance with his entry, “American Trusts: The Presidents, the Tycoons and the Muckraker.” All entries adhered to the 2014 theme, “Rights and Responsibilities in History.”
