The local Home Instead Senior Care office once again is sponsoring its Be a Santa to a Senior program, which provides holiday cheer to seniors in Southwestern Allegheny and Washington counties who are alone or impoverished.

The program brings together area nonprofits, retailers, volunteers and members of the community to provide gifts and companionship for lonely and isolated seniors.

Among Home Instead Senior Care’s partners are Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging, Aging Services of Washington County, Washington Meals on Wheels, Senior Life in Washington, Meals on Wheels of Peters Township, AHEPA 1, Thomas Campbell Apartments, Burgettstown Elderly Apartments, Canon Apartments, Char House, Crest Avenue Apartments, United Mine Workers and Trinity School District. Program coordinators hope to collect 1,000 gifts to help more than 350 area seniors this holiday season.

Participating retail locations will display Be a Santa to a Senior Christmas trees beginning Friday through Dec. 15 that feature ornaments with seniors’ first names and their gift requests. Shoppers can select ornaments from the trees, buy the items listed and return them unwrapped – and with the ornament attached – to the store.

Be a Santa to a Senior trees will be located at Washington Crown Center, Bethel Park Walgreens in Upper St. Clair, Thomas Campbell Christian Center, 850 Beech St., Washington, and the Home Instead Senior Care office, 2000 Oxford Drive, Bethel Park.

Program partners and volunteers will wrap and distribute the gifts to local seniors.
