Holiday display open at Valley railroad club
The Mid-Mon Valley Model Railroad Club is opening its doors from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Jan. 3 to share its holiday display.
The club is located at 159 Main St., New Eagle, second floor.
The display depicts major industries in the mid-Mon Valley as they interacted with railroads. The three rooms feature trains running on a double-decked layout, and a helix is used in a fourth room so the trains can travel back and forth from the lower to upper level. Along the way, there is a blast furnace, rolling mill, strip mine, coke ovens, railroad yard and trolley line.
Another room features historical artifacts from area railroads and photographs. Items include trainmen’s lanterns, switch locks, tickets, timetables, caps and signal lights.
Admission is free, although a suggested donation is $1 per person. Coloring pages and publications about trains are available for free.
