The Macdonald Pipe Band of Pittsburgh will hold a traditional Robert Burns Supper at 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 123 Gilkeson Road, Mt. Lebanon.
The fundraiser includes Scottish entertainment provided by the pipe band, which is composed of musicians from throughout the tri-state area; Patrick Regan of Pittsburgh delivering Burns’ “Address to a Haggis” in the broad Scots dialect; and the Celtic Spirit Highland Dancers.
There also will be a Scottish repast of steak pie and haggis and a tribute to poet Robert Burns.
In addition, Isabel Walker Harrar of Wheeling, W.Va., will mark her third appearance at the event as the giver of the “Immortal Memory of Robert Burns” speech.
Harrar is a native of Strathaven, Scotland, just 20 miles south of Glasgow and not far from Burns’ boyhood home in Ayrshire. She grew up hearing the poetry of Burns recited frequently by her father, Andrew, and was encouraged to memorize large portions of it both at home and in school.
Doors open at 5 p.m.
