Preservation architect Terry A. Necciai of Monongahela recently presented a paper on farm landscapes in Washington and Greene counties at the annual meeting of the Agricultural History Society in Lexington, Ky.

The society consists mostly of history professors from around the world who teach at colleges offering agriculture degrees. The group publishes Agricultural History, the main academic journal on this topic, and this year’s conference theme was “Animals in Rural, Agricultural and Environmental History.”

Necciai’s spoke about “The Way Sheep and Sloped Land Shaped Each Other in Western Pennsylvania.”

Necciai has been studying land patterns in rural areas of Southwestern Pennsylvania for about 30 years while preparing National Register nominations for 19 farms. He has successfully nominated more than 60 properties, including farms, buildings and historic districts in the Mid-Atlantic region.
