Area veterans are honored at service
The ninth annual “Honor, Hope and Healing” veterans service was held Nov. 1 at Covenant Life Fellowship in Washington.
Several veterans were honored. Honorees were:
• Robert Merryman, Marines – Vietnam War;
• Peter Zofchak, Army – Korean War;
• Paris Dunomes, Navy – Somalia, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Afghanistan;
• Christina Marth, Air Force and Air Force Reserves – Diego Garcia, Eskan Village, Saudia Arabia and Kirkuk, Iraq. Marth works for the Pennsylvania State Police.
David Zofchak accepted the honor on behalf of his father, who died in 2014, and shared his father’s story. All of the honorees told their stories as well.
Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi and state Rep. Brandon Neuman, D-North Strabane Township, both spoke and awarded certificates to the honorees.
All veterans who attended went through the receiving line and were honored. They included the Patriot Guard Riders, the Claysville Legion Riders, Civil Air Patrol Squadron 601 and the Marine Corps Detachment 1138.
More than 200 people attended the service.
