Ken and Cathie Havelka of Charleston, S.C., formerly of Burgettstown, announce the engagement of their son, Lt. Brett Havelka, to Carly Sanford, daughter of Robert and Shawna Sanford of Ridgecrest, Calif.

The future groom is a 2005 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor of science in physics. He is an F-18 pilot in the United States Navy, stationed at the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, Ridgecrest.

The bride-to-be is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in technical management at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Fla. She is employed as a software configuration manager for the Harrier program at the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake.

After an October 3 wedding, the couple will make their home in Naples, Italy.
