Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, 112 W. Pike St., will sponsor a 12-week GriefShare loss support group from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 7, in fellowship hall. Anyone grieving the loss of a loved one is invited. To register or for more information, call the church at 724-745-0800.

Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church will hold its 18th annual Ethinicfest from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 9 and noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 10 in Chess Park, Monongahela. The festival will include ethnic and American food booths, flea market, bake sale and entertainment by the Nutones polka band.

Amwell Township Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxilary will hold a Cornhole Tournament at 3 p.m. Sept. 10 at the fire department. Cost is $20 per player and includes admission and drinks. Cost for spectators is $10 and includes drinks. Players must be 21 years old. Teams of two will play double-elimination games to 21 points. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place. There also will be a disc jockey, food, drinks, raffles, Chinese auction and 50/50 drawing. Proceeds benefit the fire department. Washington County Master Gardeners, through Penn State Extension, will offer the workshop “Thomas Jefferson: Advocate for Native Plants” at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 at the John White House, 2151 N. Main St., Washington. A $10 donation is requested. Dr. Candy S. DeBerry will present information about the role Thomas Jefferson played in protecting and preserving native plants.
