Peters Twp. seniors earn Eagle Scout honors
Two Boy Scouts with Troop 1320 in McMurray have earned Eagle Scout honors.
Thomas Wilk has been a Boy Scout for 12 years, beginning as a Tiger Cub. He earned 28 merit badges and has held the following positions: patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and instructor.
High Adventure trips with the Boy Scouts included Sea Base, where he spent a week living and working on a sailboat in the Florida Keys, and Philmont, a 90-mile, two-week hike in the New Mexico mountains, where Scouts were allowed only what they carried with them in their packs.
For his Eagle Scout project, he designed and constructed a play structure for St. David’s Episcopal Church in Peters Township. The structure features two tower platforms, three swings and a climbing wall to benefit two churches, two preschools and the community.
A senior at Peters Township High School, Wilk participates in band, where he served as band manager for four years and head manager for two years. A senior, he also is a member of the FRC Robotics Titanium Titans Team 4467, and spent three years helping the team design, manufacture and compete a custom-built robot in competition. During the past year, he was the lead strategist for the team.
In addition, Wilk attended the regional competition of the Science Olympiad, designing a bridge, a small moving robot and catapult with his partner.
Jeremy ReoNason, 18 and a senior at Peters Township High School, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in September. He joined Cub Scouts 11 years ago, and since joining Troop 1320, he has completed all required ranks, earned 32 merit badges and has held the positions of patrol leader, chaplain aide, instructor, Order of the Arrow and Eagle Scout.
Highlights of his Scouting career include a 90-mile backpack hike at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and a seven-day sailboat trip at Scout Florida Sea Base, where he worked as a crew member while at sea.
ReoNason’s Eagle Scout project was to renovate a room at Family Promise, a daytime house for homeless families in Crafton. The project included hanging drywall, painting the ceiling, walls, floor, trim and stairs, installing a heating/air-conditioning unit, updating all electrical outlets and adding shelving for clothing.
ReoNason, son of Rita Reo of Venetia and the late Bill Nason, is the trumpet section leader in marching band, a member of the Interact Club and a school ambassador. He received his karate black belt in May and works at a local restaurant.
